The 360 degree circular film and its projection equipment were designed and installed by HORIZON's Film Machinery Division for the China Film Science and Technology Research Institute. The computerized synchronization of film won the national prize for Advanced Science and Technology Achievement.
The system utilizes nine HORIZON 35mm film projectors together with two 35mm 6 channel soundtracks and a 16 channel sound processor, linked together and controlled by a common computerized synchronizer which is operated and monitored by a a single operator from a single work-station.
All projectors, reflectors, xenon lamps and other devices
are identical and directed so that each film image meshes precisely on the circular screen to the next adjacent film image providing a believable and realistic 360 degree image which completely surrounds the viewer. The screen is a custom-fabricated screen and frame inside the large circular cinema.
The Horizon-developed computer control system operates and synchronizes all nine projectors to run in unison to less than a 1 frame synch-error margin, maintaining even feature-length presentations in excellent synchronization.
Specifications:
Aperture size: 17.02mm X23.37 mm
Effective light flux illuminace and color temper for nine projectors are indistinguishable.
Effective light flux: of a projector over 7000 lm.
Illuminace evenness: over 65%.
Color temperature 5400+1000K.
Difference in color temper of the light beam of nine projector less than 400K.
Focal length synchronization for lenses less than 0.5%.
